Google+ For Attorneys

It’s more important than ever to have a presence on Google+. At the beginning of the year Google more tightly integrated Google+ updates/info into the search results via their Google Search Plus update.

Now when somebody does a search, the top results are those that people from their Google Plus network have “ +1ed” (Google’s version of the Facebook Like).

Imagine this scenario:

You’re an attorney in Los Angeles with your own website. You create your own Google+ profile and +1 your own website and any listings you have in any lawyer directories, or other articles in which you or your firm are mentioned.

Once you’ve +1’ed all that content, you encourage everybody you know to follow you (in Google Plus lingo, you’re asking them to add you to their ‘circles’) on Google+.

Now when any of those people that added you to their circles on Google+ does a search for anything related to ‘los angeles attorney’ any content you’ve +1’ed will show up prominently at the top of the search results.

The video below will give you a better idea:

To recap, here are the steps you need to take to begin to better utilize Google+ to get more clients:

1) Create your profile on Google+ if you haven’t already.

2) While logged in, +1 your own website, any listings you have in Martindale, Lawyers.com, or other directories, and any articles/PR that have mentioned your firm.

3) If you have a website, prominently display a Google+ button which people can click to promote your content. You can customize a button here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/button/

 4) Email everybody on your marketing list (or everybody you know if you don’t have a list) and request they add you to their circles on Google+

5) (Optional) Create a business profile for your firm.More info about that can be found here: http://www.google.com/+/business/

By following these steps your content will appear more prominently in people’s search results who follow you, and your reach will expand as your network grows.

Not only has Google+ been one of our most impactful networks on the internet, it also gives us a new market in the sense of sharing our content. We rely on our educational marketing techniques for potential clients and by including our content on Google+ it has been that much easier for us to reach them. Another big increase we see is the matter of sharing and posting of content between different firms which in turn help build PR as well as link juice. Google+ is the reason why firms should include social media into their online efforts (SEO in particular).
